The Mysterious Edge of the heroic World.

I selected the Konigsburg book because I love the cover and the title. Since judging a book by its covered is generally discouraged, I read the first page and became hooked. I like the way the protagonist meets a nextdoor neighbour in a very easy and believable mannner. The writer is absolutely sensitive and has avoided excessive description without compromising vivid images. The neighbour used to be a famous opera singer.

I like the way we learn about two boys who are trying to understand their mothers and develop their own identity.

I am so pleased that you picked the Konigsburg book. The Mysterious Edge of the Heroic World is a complicated book. The cast of eccentric characters and the mystery of Mr. Zender's past are woven skillfully in a plot that seems tragic, funny, and mysterious at the same time. The story was well liked by a group of grade seven girls at our school.

This book includes many references to artists like Marc Chagal, Matisse etc in addition to references to Hitler's activities around "degenerative art" I love art. Therefore this novel holds special interest for me. I wonder if inner city students would find this info relevant.
